How to create an inspiration board
Three distinct AI design directions from a single room photo. Show the customer the options, get a clear direction, then quote with confidence. 90 seconds end-to-end.
When to use an inspiration board vs a single mockup
Single mockup: customer knows what they want. You upload a photo, they describe the brief, the AI renders it. One result.
Inspiration board: customer hasn't decided yet. You upload a photo, the AI generates three different styles (Contemporary, Warm Traditional, Bold Luxurious), the customer picks before you commit to a detailed quote.
If the customer says "I want something modern" but can't be more specific — start with an inspiration board. If they show you 5 Pinterest pins for the same kitchen — go straight to a single mockup.
Step 1 — Open the Inspiration tab
From your client portal top nav, click Inspiration. (Pro plan only — if you're on Essentials, the link won't appear.)
Step 2 — Upload a room photo
Same rules as for a single mockup: wide landscape phone shot, daylight, multiple walls visible, ceiling line included where possible. Empty rooms render most dramatically; cluttered rooms still work but the result looks "edited".
Step 3 — Type a short brief
Short and high-level. The AI uses it as the project context, not the style — the three styles are pre-defined.
- Kitchen renovation
- Bathroom refit
- Lounge update
- Garden room conversion
Step 4 — Click Generate
The AI runs three renders in parallel. The Contemporary brief uses a low temperature (restrained, clean), the Warm Traditional brief uses mid temperature, and the Bold Luxurious uses high temperature for more creative output. Total time: 60-90 seconds.
Progress shows on screen with a per-style ticker so you know which renders are still in flight.
Step 5 — Review with your customer
The result is a single page showing the original photo (top-left) and all three style variations (Contemporary top-right, Warm Traditional bottom-left, Bold Luxurious bottom-right) with one-line captions describing each direction.
Two ways to review:
- In person on a tablet — works well for site visits. Show the board, walk through each style.
- Share the link by email/WhatsApp — they review in their own time, reply with their pick.
Step 6 — Convert chosen style to quote
Once the customer picks, open the inspiration board and click Quote this style on the chosen render. The render's brief automatically becomes the scope for a full priced quote — you just confirm line items and total. No re-typing.
Tips for great inspiration boards
- One photo, three styles — don't generate three separate boards. The same room shown three ways is the sales tool.
- Empty rooms are easier — fewer existing decor cues for the AI to honour. New-build extensions and stripped-out rooms render most dramatically.
- Photograph from a corner — gives the AI more context (more walls visible) than a head-on shot.
- Don't comment on quality — let the customer judge first. They notice different things than you do.
