What's on the template

Your business details — name, address, phone, email, VAT number (if registered), company number (if Ltd)
Invoice number — sequential reference (e.g. INV-001, INV-002)
Issue date and due date
Customer details — name, address
Line items — description, quantity, unit price, line total
Subtotal
VAT (20% standard, 5% reduced, 0% zero-rated, or "Not VAT registered")
Total amount due
Payment details — bank account name, sort code, account number, payment reference
Payment terms — typically "Payment due within 14 days of invoice date"

UK invoicing requirements (general guidance)

If VAT registered: must include VAT registration number, VAT rate, VAT amount, and total inc VAT
If a limited company: must show company name, company registration number, and registered office address
Sole traders: must show your name and trading name
All invoices: must have a unique sequential invoice number, your contact details, the customer's contact details, the date, and a clear description of work
