TailoredQuote vs Fergus
Fergus is job management software. TailoredQuote is quoting software. They solve different problems, and many UK trade businesses use both side by side.
What each tool actually does
Fergus is a job management platform originally from New Zealand that has built a solid UK user base among plumbers, electricians, builders, and HVAC contractors. It covers the full job lifecycle: scheduling work across a team, tracking costs against budgets in real time, managing purchase orders and supplier relationships, and invoicing on completion. Its real-time job costing is a particular strength -- you can see whether a job is on budget at any point during the work.
TailoredQuote sits at a different point in the workflow. It is a quoting tool for construction and trade businesses. You describe a project in plain English and the AI drafts an itemised scope of work with professional language. You review every line and set every price before sending. The output is a branded PDF with your letterhead. On the Pro plan, you can add room mockups showing the client an illustrative version of the proposed finish. E-signatures let the customer accept the quote on their phone.
TailoredQuote does not do job management. It does not schedule teams, track timesheets, manage purchase orders, or handle job costing. Fergus does all of that. In the other direction, Fergus has a quoting feature with manual line items, but it does not draft scope descriptions for you, produce construction-specific language, or generate room mockups. Each tool does what it was designed for.

Fergus strengths
- Real-time job costing. See at a glance whether a job is on budget while the work is still in progress. Useful for catching overruns before they eat into your margin. TailoredQuote does not do job costing.
- Full job lifecycle. Enquiry through to invoice in one platform. Accept a quote, convert it to a job, assign staff, track progress, and invoice on completion. TailoredQuote does not manage jobs after the quote stage.
- Team coordination. Scheduling calendar, staff timesheets, and field management help you coordinate tradespeople across multiple sites. TailoredQuote has no team management features.
- Purchase orders and supplier management. Create and manage purchase orders, track supplier pricing, and monitor material costs. TailoredQuote does not handle procurement.
- Native mobile app. Designed for field use. Engineers can update job status, log time, take photos, and capture client signatures on site.
TailoredQuote strengths
- AI-drafted scope descriptions. Describe the job in your own words and the AI drafts itemised scope text in professional UK English. You review and set every price. Fergus's quoting requires you to write all descriptions manually.
- Construction-specific output. The AI understands UK trade terminology and produces scope language appropriate for builders, bathroom fitters, kitchen installers, and similar trades.
- Room mockups (Pro). Upload a photo, describe the changes, and get an AI-generated visual of the proposed result. Fergus has no equivalent.
- E-signatures. Send a quote link, the customer signs on their phone, and you get a signed acceptance certificate. Fergus does not offer this.
- Lower cost for sole traders. Flat monthly fee regardless of user count. Fergus charges per user, which makes sense for teams but is less economical for sole traders who do not need scheduling or timesheets.
Using them together
The two tools handle different stages of the same workflow. TailoredQuote creates the quote. Fergus manages the job after it is accepted. There is no direct integration -- you create the job in Fergus manually after the quote is won -- but the handoff is straightforward because the tools do not overlap.
When Fergus alone is enough
If your quoting needs are simple -- standard line items, fixed-price packages, or repetitive jobs where the scope does not change much -- Fergus's built-in quoting may cover you. If your main challenge is coordinating a team and controlling job costs rather than creating detailed scopes, Fergus is the higher priority.
When TailoredQuote adds value
If you regularly quote for projects where the scope varies -- renovations, bathrooms, kitchens, extensions -- and you spend significant time writing each quote, TailoredQuote can speed that up. The AI drafts the scope; you control every price. Whether it is worth the subscription depends on your quoting volume and how much presentation quality matters in your trade.
For sole traders who do not need team scheduling or timesheets, TailoredQuote covers the quoting stage without paying for job management features that go unused. For larger firms already using Fergus, adding TailoredQuote handles the quoting part of the workflow that Fergus was not designed for.
